Hurricanes guard Riquna Williams put in 36 points in the double-overtime win over Rutgers on Monday, hitting on five of her nine three-point attempts including two in the second overtime that sparked Miami to the victory over the eleventh-ranked Scarlet Knights.
Tonight the Hurricanes women’s basketball team will return to the floor at the Bank Atlantic Center at 7 PM ET to take on the visiting Mississippi Rebels. Following her performance on Monday, Williams is facing an opportunity to capture the ACC Player of the Week Award only a couple of weeks after her backcourt mate, Shenise Johnson, was given the recognition for the week ending November 27.
Johnson, too, could be in the hunt for the weekly recognition again following her own big night on Monday. She scored 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the Hurricanes’ 92-81 win.
Both are off to very good seasons for the Hurricanes, who have lost only once to the seventh-ranked Tennessee Volunteers. Johnson is averaging 18.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and 4.9 steals per game; Williams is averaging 17.6 points, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
Miami is currently ranked ninth in the country. They begin ACC play January 2 against the North Carolina Tar Heels.
