Miami Hurricanes women’s basketball guard Riquna Williams was named the ACC Player of the Week today following an impressive week that began with a big night against highly-ranked Rutgers Monday night.
Williams scored a career-high 36 points in the double-overtime win over 11th-ranked Rutgers on Monday, then followed that up with 17 points against Ole Miss on Saturday. She scored most of her points in the second half of each game, putting in 31 points in the second half and two overtime periods against the Scarlet Knights, and 13 points in the second half against the Rebels.
Williams has been named the ACC Player of the Week seven times in her career at UM, which leads all current ACC players. She joins teammate Shenise Johnson in earning the recognition this year. Johnson was given the honor for the week ending November 27. Johnson was also in the running for last week’s player of the week recognition with a big game against Rutgers (25 points, 12 rebounds, 4 steals). She scored 11 points with four rebounds and three assists against Ole Miss.
The Hurricanes are 8-1 and currently ranked 9th in the country. They take the court next on Friday at home against Louisiana-Monroe at 7:00 PM ET.
