The Miami Hurricanes held their first official scrimmage today. To say that the running backs dominated the game would be an understatement.
Senior RB Mike James rushed for an astounding 137 yards on 13 carries and scored three touchdowns. Not too shabby. James took the ball to the house on a 51 yarder in which he burst down the sideline and into the end-zone.
Freshman RB Duke Johnson wowed the crowd when he caught a screen pass from QB Stephen Morris, slashing his way 37 yards for a touchdown. In all, Johnson was responsible for 49 yards on nine attempts and four–that’s right–four touchdowns.
QB Stephen Morris continued to impress. He completed 24-36 passes for 193 yards and four touchdowns. Morris limited himself to one interception nearing the end of the scrimmage.
QB Ryan Williams also saw action in the scrimmage. He went 12-17, throwing for 121 yards and three touchdowns.
Seems as if the battle between the quarterbacks shall continue.
Allen Hurns, Phillip Dorsett, and Maurice Hagens each scored a touchdown for the receivers, while Rashawn Scott scored twice.
On defense, A.J. Highsmith recorded a team-high nine tackles. Tyrone Cornelius, Tracy Howard and Ramon Buchanan each finished with seven tackles apiece. Anthony Chickillo, JaWand Blue and Tyrone Cornelius each finished with one sack each. Cornelius was also responsible for the games only interception.
Kicker Jake Wieclaw showed off his big leg hitting from 56 and 41 yards.
