The Miami Herald has reported that freshman LB Raphael Kirby has been spotted wearing a cast on his right leg, starting at his knee. Kirby was injured in Sunday’s scrimmage. Golden stated that his injury should not require surgery and Kirby could be out until mid-season. Pre-injury, Kirby had been practicing with the second team behind starting LB Denzel Perryman.
RT Seantrel Henderson is back to practicing in full pads. He has missed most of camp and has been removed from the depth chart. Said Golden, “He’s got to get going. The issue is not really about how I feel, the issue is that there’s not as many opportunities anymore to compete.” Henderson will be heading home to Minnesota this week to attend a funeral.
DE Kelvin Cain has been removed from the depth chart. According to Golden, Cain has suffered an injury and has not practiced in over a week.
Injuries are continuing to plague the Hurricanes defense. LB Eddie Johnson is limited in practicing; LB Thurston Armbrister took a finger to the eye and has just returned to practice; LB Gionni Paul suffered a knee injury and has been seen limping around; LB Raphael Kirby has also been removed from the depth chart due to the injury to his leg; And last but not least, star DE Anthony Chickollo was seen being helped off of the field by a trainer. At this point his status is unknown.
Junior QB Stephen Morris will be the starter for the ‘Canes opener at Boston College. However, coaches continue to praise QB Ryan Williams as well.
Coaches have nothing but good things to say about freshman Gabe Terry. Said Golden, “Gabe Terry is going to be a football player. He doesn’t know whether the ball is stuffed or pumped, but he flies around, man…”
