Well, my fellow ‘Canes fans, only nine more practices left until the season-opener vs. Boston College.  I hope that the last two weeks fly by.

Saturday’s scrimmage was cut short due to mother nature–our good friend, lightning, was the sole cause.  Due to the bad weather, only one half was completed.  However, Golden blared artificial crowd noise through the speakers to simulate a real game. Following the scrimmage, the coach did not publicly release any statistics.

Some highlights of Saturday’s short scrimmage: RB’s Mike James and Duke Johnson each had touchdown runs; Kelvin Cain recorded a safety and gave the white team a 16-0 lead before the scrimmage came to a halt.

CanesFest was a big hit.  The event drew in thousands of Miami fans who endured long lines in order to meet their favorite players and coaches.  There were several Miami teams represented at CanesFest: football, tennis, women’s basketball, rowing, as well as women’s golf and track.  We can all guess where most of the fans spent their time–the autograph session hosted by the Miami Hurricanes football team.  Fans in attendance were also able to view Gino Toretta’s 1992 Heisman Trophy, Warren Sapp’s 1994 Lombardi Award and Bennie Blades 1987 Jim Thorpe Award.  Overall, the event was a huge success.

Seantrel Henderson still remains absent from practice and Golden said it would be nearly impossible for him to start during the opener vs. Boston College.  According to Golden, Henderson would be 20 practices behind the rest of the team.

WR Allen Hurns is still not able to participate in practice.  Due to a head injury that he suffered, Hurns says that he is ready to return.  He is currently listed as the number one receiver on the most recent depth chart.

Freshman OL Ereck Flowers is listed as the starter at RT.  Due to Henderson’s absence, Flower’s is now the man to beat.

Freshman S Deon Bush is receiving praise at the safety position.  In the most recent depth chart Bush is listed as the co-starter along with S Kacy Rodgers.

DT Curtis Porter remains unlisted on the depth chart.  A knee injury is the cause of his absence.

According to Golden, DT Olsen Pierre has been the most productive defensive tackle of the bunch.

LB Denzel Perryman, DT Olsen Pierre, DE Shayon Green, CB Brandon McGee and P Dalton Botts all will wear black jersey’s during today’s practice.

WR Allen Hurns, TE Dyron Dye and CB Larry Hope will all wear limited contact yellow jersey’s.  DT Corey King has spent much of his Miami career injured.  He will be wearing a non-contact red jersey.
