If you thought that things couldn’t get any worse for the Miami Hurricanes defense, it just has. LB Ramon Buchanan will miss the rest of the season due to a right knee injury. Buchanan, a fifth-year senior, is to undergo surgery this week.
Also, S Vaughn Telemaque will be sidelined during this week’s game vs. Bethune-Cookman with a left knee injury.
Buchanan, who missed the final eight games last season, suffered a torn ACL on the same knee in 2011. Said head coach Al Golden, “I feel sorry for the young man. He’s put a lot into it so that’s tough. He got his right knee caught underneath him and then the pile fell backwards on him.”
Buchanan has recorded ten tackles in the first two games. According to Golden, Jimmy Gaines and Tyrone Cornelius will compete for the starting spot. If Buchanan chooses to do so, he would be allowed to apply for a sixth-year of eligibility.
In his Miami career, Buchanan has tallied 116 tackles in 41 games.
