Rivals is reporting that current Miami AD Shawn Eichorst is an outside candidate for Nebraska’s Athletic Director job.

Eichorst has strong ties to the Big Ten and the Wisconsin native worked under former University of Wisconsin legend Barry Alvarez, serving as his Deputy AD from 2009-2011.  Eichorst also worked at the University of South Carolina in a similar position.

According to Rivals, Barry Alvarez had this to say about Miami’s AD: “He’s got a tremendous background…he was a college athlete.  He has a law degree, practiced law.  He was his own boss, ran his own program, albeit Division III initially.  He worked at South Carolina, oversaw football with [Steve] Spurrier, [Lou] Holtz.  I’ve given him a lot of responsibilities here.  He’s very bright.  He knows athletics, understands coaches and athletes.  He’s a guy that works extremely hard , gets along great with people.”

Eichorst, who is in his second year at Miami, was named the ‘Canes 12th Director of Athletics on April 12, 2011.
