The ACC has announced their Football Players of the Week and three Miami Hurricanes find themselves listed.

Miami QB Stephen Morris was undoubtedly named the Offensive Back of the Week.  In Miami’s 37-44 win, Morris set a UM passing record as well as a new conference single-game record as he threw for 566 yards against North Carolina State.  “The junior quarterback completed 26 of 49 passes for a 21.8 yards-per-completion average, and recorded five TDs, tying five other Miami quarterbacks for the most in a single game and the first since Kyle Wright at Wake Forest in 2005.”  Morris threw for 271 yards in the first quarter alone “…becoming the fourth FBS player to throw for that many [yards] since 2004.”

Sophomore LB Gionni Paul was also honored for his performance against North Carolina State.  Paul recorded a team-high 11 tackles during his first-career start at MLB.  Paul, who was filling in for the injured Denzel Perryman, tallied a forced-fumble and eight solo tackles.

Lastly, freshman LB Eddie Johnson was named ACC Rookie of the Week.  Johnson recorded seven tackles (six solo), one sack, one tackles-for-loss, two forced-fumbles and one pass break-up.  Whew, that was a mouthful.  Last week, the freshman LB was named ACC Linebacker of the Week.

In other news, it is being reported by The Seventh Floor Blog that backup OL Jermaine Johnson is no longer with the Miami Hurricanes.

As tweeted by BrianTheBeastLondon (@allcanesradio): Al on JJ “Jermaine is not w/us right now.  That’s personal reasons…but it’s Jermaine’s choice and he’s not with us right now.”

It is unclear whether or not Johnson will return to the team.

DT Olsen Pierre was held out of Monday’s practice for reasons unknown.  Freshman Dequan Ivery was practicing with the first-team.  Last week, Ivery was named MVP of the scout team.
