Following Miami’s heartbreaking loss at Virgina, there was one bright spot for the ‘Canes – Duke Johnson and Gionni Paul.
Johnson ran the ball for a career-high 150 yards on 16 carries. The freshman proved that he could throw the ball as well, connecting with WR Allen Hurns on a 9-yard touchdown pass during the first-quarter. Johnson totaled 368 all-purpose yards, including a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The Miami native has had three 100-yard rushing games this season.
Against Virginia, LB Gionni Paul amassed a career-high 14 tackles, seven of which were solo.
After torching the ‘Canes defense for 300 passing yards, Virginia QB Michael Rocco was named Offensive Player of the Week. Rocco completed 29-of-37 passes with four touchdowns and zero interceptions.
Virginia DB Maurice Canady earned Co-Defensive Back honors after recording nine tackles and a forced fumble during the Hoos’ 41-40 win against Miami.
