Tommy Tuberville is a name that Miami fans are familiar with. He was wanted by many in Coral Gables to replace Randy Shannon before Al Golden landed the gig. Tommy has decided to put down his cowboy boots and trade them in for snow boots.
Tubs has left Texas Tech to where he will replace Butch Jones who has been hired as Tennessee’s new head coach. According to USA Today, “A Texas Tech school spokesman confirmed the move…The [Tuberville] hiring reverses a trend for the Bearcats, who have seen Mark Dantonio, Brian Kelly and now Jones leave after short tenures. They were all up and coming talents in the coaching profession. Tuberville has 17 seasons under his belt.”
Tuberville has ties with Miami, serving as an assistant from 1986-1993. Following his departure from Miami, he landed head coaching jobs with Ole Miss, Auburn and Texas Tech.
Tuberville has achieved success throughout his coaching career and one has to wonder how long he will stay at Cincy before finding a more prestigious job. Nevertheless, the Bearcats’ hit a home run with the hire of Tuberville and there is no doubt that he can recruit with the best of them.
Tuberville is 130-77 as a head coach.
