In what seemed like a somewhat surprising move, Jesuit (FL.) TE Travis Johnson announced via Twitter that he was de-committing from the University of Miami.

Said Johnson (@IAmFeedMe): “Decommitting from The University Of Miami.  Opening up my recruiting up.”

The four-star Johnson claims to have been a life-long ‘Canes fan, but for those Miami fans familiar with recruiting – how many potential recruits say that year after year?

Johnson’s mother, Angela Hardy-Jones, told the Tampa Bay Times that “her son’s change of heart was mutual.  Miami is facing looming NCAA sanctions…her recent attempts to reach two UM coaches instrumental in Johnson’s recruiting have been futile.”

Miami has been after JUCO TE Beau Sandland who is set to announce his decision Wednesday, 12/19.  He will choose between Miami and Arizona State.

Following her son’s de-committment, Hardy-Jones says her son’s top choice is Missouri.

Best of luck to Mr. Johnson wherever he lands.
