Football Recruiting: Where Will Five-Star RB Alex Collins Go?

With just under two weeks remaining until signing day, all eyes will be on South Plantation, Fla. RB Alex Collins.  Collins is said to be picking between Miami, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State and Wisconsin, although some appear to be higher on the list than others.

Collins, who was once a Miami verbal commitment, decided to re-open his recruitment citing the need to explore other options.  Though I cannot speak from experience, I can only imagine that being a nationally recognized prospect has to be stressful.  Can one blame Collins for wanting to weigh the pros and cons of each university?  One cannot fault him for wanting to keep his options open – after all, this is likely the biggest decision that he has had to make in his young life.

Collins was in attendance when No. 25 Miami hosted then No 1. Duke.  It was rumored that the sold-out crowd began to chant his name.  Miami fans even Tweeted that Collins was seen throwing up the ‘U’ with Miami’s mascot, Sebastian.

The next day, Collins was to take his final visit to the University of Arkansas.  Collins has developed a strong relationship with Razorbacks’ newly acquired head coach Bret Bielema.  Bielema began recruiting Collins when he was at Wisconsin and his ability to secure the five-star’s final visit is admirable in itself.

While on his visit, Collins tweeted the following:

(Budda03): I’m enjoying my visit so far ! Took a tour around the hill , alittle hungry sooo CATFISH HOLE HERE I COME !”

For those of you wondering, The Catfish Hole is a small seafood joint located in Fayetteville, Arkansas.  The restaurant boasts the “Razorback Room,” a dining area plastered with Arkansas memorabilia.  Apparently this “Razorback Room” is a big deal in Arkansas.  The restaurant is even listed under “Things to Do” while visiting Arkansas, should any of you find yourselves bored in Fayetteville.

In any event, here is Collins tweet post-Catfish Hole:

(Budda03): WOOWWWWWW !!!!!! That’s all I can say is WOWWWWW !!!! More to come on my experience after I leave the catfish hole !”

So, should Miami fans be concerned?  Does The Catfish Hole hold the power of luring Collins away from Miami?  Does his recruitment teeter on some fried fish and hush puppies?

It’s hard to say.  Going by his tweets, Fayetteville left a lasting impression.

Collins has let it be known that wherever he decides, he seeks to be the featured back.  Having read countless interviews the youngster has given, I have concluded that he wants nothing more than to wear orange and green, but the NCAA’s investigation into Miami has left him a bit hesitant – which can be understood.  After all, why should he be punished for something that he never took part in?

As Collins prepares to make his final decision public, this will likely come down to a Miami-Arkansas battle.  Miami fans would love for nothing more than to see a Duke Johnson-Alex Collins tandem in the backfield.

Should Collins choose Arkansas, he would undoubtedly get his carries as a true freshman.

Collins lists offers from Miami, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Florida and Florida State, per 247Sports.
