Hurricanes (M) Basketball: Canes' Rally, Beat VT 73-64

Sophomore G Shane Larkin stole the show for the No. 14 Miami Hurricanes in their 73-64 win against Virginia Tech.  Larkin scored 25 points and hit five 3-pointers as the No. 14 Canes’ cruised to their eight straight victory.  Miami is now 7-0 in ACC play.

Miami (16-3, 7-0 ACC) found themselves down 12 early in the first half, but managed to put together an impressive 22-6 run leading up to halftime.

Virginia Tech (11-9, 2-5 ACC) senior G Erick Green, who leads the nation in scoring, dropped 30 points on Miami, but his performance wasn’t enough to hand the Canes’ their first conference loss.

The Hokies’ were able to pull within four points as the game drew to an end, but a late 3-pointer by Larkin sealed the game for Miami.

Following Miami’s win, Larkin told ESPN:

The last one I hit was pretty deep.  I didn’t really pay attention.  I just saw the dude go under the screen and I just got my shot ready…it’s always fun to shush a home crowd.

Senior F Kenny Kadji scored 18 points and senior G Trey McKinney-Jones added another 12.  Virginia Tech has now lost seven of their last nine games.

Miami boasted a 13-2 run, putting them back in the driver’s seat.  As Virginia Tech surged back late, Larkin drained a deep 3-pointer giving Miami the win.

Miami will face No. 19 North Carolina State (Sat. Feb. 2) on the road in what is expected to be another tough test for the Canes’.
