Miami Hurricanes Basketball: No. 14 Miami Remains Undefeated In ACC

No.14 Miami (17-3, 8-0 ACC) traveled to Raleigh to face No.19 North Carolina State (16-6, 5-4 ACC) in what turned out to be a conference showdown.  The Canes’ escaped with a win, beating the Wolfpack’ 79-78.

With under a second remaining in play, Miami senior C Reggie Johnson tipped in a missed shot by sophomore G Shane Larkin as time nearly expired.  In a last ditch effort, the Wolfpack’ heaved the ball down court as the clock struck zero.

In a back and forth battle, Miami found themselves down one point with .08 on the clock.  Thanks to Johnson, Miami is now 8-0 in ACC play and remains atop the ACC Standings.

Durand Scott led Miami with 18 points.  Julian Gamble added 16 points and four rebounds.

North Carolina State F CJ Leslie led the Wolfpack’ with 18 points and an impressive 12 rebounds, however, his performance wasn’t enough to hand Miami their first conference loss.  North Carolina State was without G Lorenzo Brown who suffered a sprained ankle in the Wolfpacks’ loss to Virginia.  Had North Carolina State had their star guard, perhaps this game may have had a different outcome.

In any event, a win is a win and Miami will gladly take it, especially a win on the road.  With their latest victory, Miami will likely jump into the top ten, nationally.

The Canes’ struggled from deep going a dismal 3-21 from 3-point range.  The Wolfpack hit nearly half of their 3-point attempts going 4-9 from downtown, per ESPN.

Following their two road wins, Miami returns home to face Boston College (10-11, 2-6 ACC) on Feb. 5.
