Recruiting: 5-Star RB Alex Collins Shuns Miami

In the wake of his highly anticipated announcement, South Plantation RB Alex Collins decided on Monday night that he will be playing ball for Bret Bielema at Arkansas.

Collins, who is considered one of the top running backs in the state of Florida, per 247Sports, surprised Miami fans when he chose the Hogs over Al Golden and the ‘U’.  The 5-star recruit had originally committed to UM early on, only to de-commit in order to re-open his options.

Collins took official visits to Florida State, Miami, Wisconsin and Arkansas.  Bielema, who recruited Collins during his time spent at Wisconsin, secured Collins’ final visit likely locking up the highly touted back.

Miami fans were optimistic that Collins would pledge to the Canes’ for a second time, but the opportunity to play in orange and green simply wasn’t to be.

The Canes’ aren’t in any dire need of signing an ample amount of running backs in their 2013 class and return Duke Johnson, Eduardo Clements, Dallas Crawford and redshirt freshman Danny Dillard.

Golden is actively pursuing 2014 Florida running backs Sony Michel and Dalvin Cook.

Miami has lately shown interest in running backs Daryl Chestnut and Gus Edwards, both said to be seriously considering UM.  The two will announce their decisions on National Signing Day (Feb. 6).
