For the past four months Blake James has served as the University of Miami’s interim Athletic Director, replacing Shawn Eichorst who resigned from UM to serve under the same position at the University of Nebraska. The University of Miami announced today that James has been hired as Miami’s Director of Athletics.
In a statement released by University of Miami President Donna Shalala:
Blake James has proven that he has the experience, skills, leadership and especially the love for the University that we need in Athletics.”
Miami’s newest AD is currently in his third round at UM.
Prior to working at the University of Miami, James spent seven years at the University of Maine where he worked his way up to Director of Athletics by 2005.
Per Hurricane Sports, James began his career at UM beginning in ticket sales. By 1995 he was named Miami’s Director of Ticket Sales, a position that would lead him to the University of Nebraska. In Lincoln, James was named an athletic development officer, a position he would hold until 1998. James returned to Coral Gables as the Director of Major Gifts and Corporate Sales. In 2000, UM named James the Director of Athletic Development, a position he held until 2002.
James released the following statement after being name Miami’s Athletic Director:
