Elder (5-10, 170), who plans on playing both football and basketball while at UM, is rated the No. 8 athlete in the country and the No. 207 prospect overall (247Sports).
According to 247Sports, Miami began recruiting Elder early on but hadn’t actively recruited the 2-sport star as signing day drew to an end. When signing day came and went, UM head coach Al Golden and his staff re-entered the picture for Elder’s signature. Their efforts paid off.
Elder’s head coach, Ricky Bowers, told Barton Simmons of 247Sports:
They (UM) got back in it after signing day. I think he’s always wanted to go there since he was like five years old.”
Elder held major offers including Ohio State, Nebraska, Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss and Tennessee ( 247Sports).
During his senior season, Elder rushed for an impressive 2,617 yards and 36 touchdowns.
