When Miami and Duke first met at the BankUnited Center on Jan. 25, the then No. 1 Blue Devils’ were blown out to a tune of 90-63.
The No. 5 Hurricanes are coming off of a 76-58 win against Virginia Tech while No. 3 Duke dropped to Virginia on Feb. 28, 73-68. The Blue Devils will certainly have revenge on their minds as Miami travels to Durham on Saturday for a rematch.
In their first meeting, Miami’s blowout of Duke was the third worst defeat for a No. 1 team. Following the loss, Blue Devils’ head coach Mike Krzyzewski told ESPN:
What you had was a terrific win for them, but not a terrific game. We didn’t hold our end of the bargain.”
G Durand Scott led Miami with 25 points and G Shane Larkin added 10 rebounds and 5 assists. At one point, Miami held a 34-point lead and held Duke more than eight minutes without scoring a field goal.
The setting will favor Duke for part II. With tip-off slated for 6 p.m., Miami will undoubtedly find themselves in hostile territory. The crowd in Durham will be loud, but with Miami coming off of a big win against the Hokies’ and a top 5 ranking, momentum is once again on their side.
But, Duke will come prepared, especially in their own house. Don’t expect another blowout at the hands of Miami, not in Durham.
