Basketball: Ryan Kelly Leads No. 3 Duke Past No. 5 Miami, 79-76

As the No. 5 Miami Hurricanes (23-5, 14-2 ACC) squared off against No. 3 Duke (25-4, 12-4 ACC), Ryan Kelly exploded for 36 points leading the Blue Devils’ past Miami, 79-76, at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

With just under ten seconds left in regulation, Miami found themselves with the opportunity to send the game into overtime.  Following Shane Larkin’s missed 3-pointer, Rion Brown threw up one last attempt, a shot that rattled off of the rim as time expired.

In his first game back since suffering a foot injury, Duke F Ryan Kelly torched Miami for 36 points going 7-for-9 from downtown.  Kelly shot 71% from the floor and added seven rebounds and two steals.

Miami was hoping for a big game from C Reggie Johnson, who was virtually nonexistent during the second-half of play.  Shane Larkin led the Canes’ with 25 points and Kenny Kadji added 17 points.

Despite losing to Miami by 27 points in their first meeting, Duke’s head coach Mike Krzyzewski had his team prepared for round two.

The Canes’ were only 6-for-21 from 3-point range and shot 44% from the floor.

Miami can still win the ACC outright should they win against either Georgia Tech or Clemson, the last two teams remaining on their schedule.

Miami will face Georgia Tech on Mar. 6.  Duke will play Virginia Tech on Mar. 5.
