Greensboro, N.C. (theACC.com) – Miami senior Durand Scott has been voted the Atlantic Coast Conference Basketball Defensive Player of the Year by the league’s 12 head coaches.

The coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own players and case their ballots before last week’s ACC Tournament, chose Scott in a tight vote.  Scott received three votes to edge Virginia guard Jontel Evans, who received two.  Seven other players received one vote each.

The 6-foot-5 Scott, a native of the Bronx, N.Y., has usually been called upon to be the lockdown defender for a Hurricane unit that has allowed just 60.7 points per game while forcing opponents to shoot a shade under 40 percent from the floor.

Scott, who ranks third among ACC players with 1.6 steals per game, was also named the 2013 ACC Defensive Player of the Year by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media and was named to the 2013 Coaches All-ACC Defensive Team on Monday.
