Head basketball coach Jim Larranaga led the Miami Hurricanes to their first ACC regular season title, as well as ACC Tournament champions. Larranaga was recently voted the ACC’s Coach of the Year following Miami’s storybook finish.
In an excerpt from Miami’s official athletic site, Hurricane Sports:
Larranaga was named on nine of a possible 11 ballots (coaches were not allowed to vote for themselves) in voting conducted prior to the start of last week’s ACC Tournament. Larranaga received nine votes, while Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski, North Carolina’s Roy Williams and Virginia’s Tony Bennett each received one.”
In Larranaga’s second season at Miami, the Hurricanes finished the regular-season with a 27-6 record and a No. 9 national ranking. The Hurricanes finished first in the ACC with a 15-3 record and won the 2013 ACC Tournament.
During the 2012-13 season, Miami was ranked as high as No. 2 nationally, the program’s highest ranking to date. Miami will enter the 2013 NCAA Tournament with a No. 2 seed playing in the East Region.
