Report: Reggie Johnson Will Not Play Against Marquette

The Miami Hurricanes will be without C Reggie Johnson when they travel to Washington, D.C. on Thursday to begin Sweet 16 play against Marquette, according to Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald.

In an excerpt from the Herald:

Center Reggie Johnson will not be making the trip to Washington, D.C., two teammates confirmed, because of a knee injury.  UM later released a statement saying Johnson, sustained a lower extremity injury in the win over Illinois Sunday and his timetable for a return is uncertain.”

We’re all just going to have to step up,” said sixth-year senior forward Julian Gamble.  Hopefully we get him back for the Final Four.”

Johnson, who is averaging 6.7 ppg and 7.0 rpg, played 18 minutes in Miami’s win over Illinois, tallying five rebounds and one assist.

Head coach Jim Larranaga told Navarro:

I’ve said this before and I know you guys make a lot more of it than we do, but we’ve had great performances from our big guys.  They combine to do what we need done.”
