On Friday, American Heritage (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) RB Sony Michel committed to Mark Richt and the University of Georgia, per Rivals.com.
In an announcement on ESPN, the 5-star running back declared himself a Dawg, choosing from a list that consisted of Florida, Florida State, Notre Dame and Miami (Fla.)
On what stood out about Georgia, Michel told Rivals.com:
The visits were great. It was a different experience for me to go to Georgia. It was something I had never seen before. I met a lot of people. I met some of the recruits that were coming in, some of the class of 2014 kids, and some of the kids that’s already there. I got a chance to meet those kids.”
Michel (5-11, 205) has been on the national radar since he was in the eighth grade and the Hurricanes’ had been considered the favorite to land his services.
But that is not to be.
According to ESPN, Miami made one last attempt to keep Michel home:
Miami came by my school and tried to make a big push for me this week, but I shot down all contact with coaches. It will not be too difficult for me to avoid changing my mind. Once I make my decision, I am solid with it, and I feel like nothing is really going to change that.”
Michel holds offers from nearly every major program in the nation, including Alabama, LSU, Penn State, South Carolina and Wisconsin (247Sports).
During the 2012 season, Michel rushed for 1,258 yards and 18 touchdowns (247Sports). Michel is ranked the No. 11 overall player in the nation and the No. 2 running back, according to the 247Composite.
