Basketball: Corn Elder, Derrick Griffin To Play Hoops

2013 UM football commitments Corn Elder and Derrick Griffin will also play basketball for the Hurricanes’ according to a Sporting News report.

Elder told Sporting News that he and Griffin (6-7, 210) will be playing basketball for Jim Larranaga’s squad come 2014.

According to the report, UM could not confirm the news.

Aside from football, Elder is a nationally ranked basketball player who holds offers from Jacksonville, Middle Tennessee, Purdue and Tennessee State (ESPN).  He is also a two-time Tennessee Mr. Football and was named the offensive MVP of the 2012 state championship where he rushed for 225 yards and three touchdowns.  Elder was a finalist for the 2013 Mr. Basketball award.

Griffin has previously expressed his interest in playing basketball for the Hurricanes’ as well.

UM received big news on Wednesday when Kansas State PG Angel Rodriguez announced that he will be transferring to Coral Gables.
