In regards to the NCAA: “I hope we have a mature group…I hope our guys are focused on one thing and that’s Florida Atlantic and getting better.”

On the current football team: “This is a more mature team than we’ve had, it’s a deeper team…I hope our team is focused on one thing and that’s Florida Atlantic.”

On RB Gus Edwards: “He’s been practicing – we’re excited about Gus.”

On opening on a Friday night: “The AD said we were playing on Friday night and I said lets go.”

On his third year at UM: “The expectations have never changed…There are reasons why kids choose Miami and why I chose Miami…We are trying to build it one day and one piece at a time…We’re fighting, we’re building – we’re going to continue to build.”

On the defense: “Last year we had 34 penalties and a number of mental errors – that would be the downfall of any defense…Coming into the spring, we only lost one starter…There was too much inexperience last season…All of the young guys in the secondary leads to trouble…[This year] the safeties are more experienced…The penalties were a result of a lack of confidence…This year we are bigger and stronger.”

On RB Duke Johnson: “He’s in better condition – he’s bigger, he’s stronger, he has more experience…He will play better [this year] because the receivers are better and the offensive line is better.”

On DT Curtis Porter: “He’s left so many bad habits in the past…He needs to have luck in terms of his health…He is bigger and stronger – he is up to 325 lbs.”

On DT Olsen Pierre: “He has been steady and consistent…He’s much bigger – around 303-305 lbs.”

On MLB Denzel Perryman: “He has to be more consistent and develop better habits everyday…I’ve challenged him…Jon Vilma has talked to him about that…We need you to play championship football…He’s up to around 240 lbs.”

On Howard Schnellenberger being honored on Friday night: “It’s a celebration for what he’s done for both programs…[Howard] is a man who owes me nothing but treats me with respect…What a great moment for him on Friday.”

On WR depth: “We don’t have a lot of wide receivers on scholarship – we need to recruit more receivers…We maybe have eight on scholarship…Stacy [Coley] has made a strong push, Malcolm [Lewis] is back to healthy…We are going to roll all six receivers in.”

On Jontavious Carter: “He was dismissed and that’s it.”

On preparing for FAU, who has yet to name a quarterback: “Johnson or Hankerson is who we expect…We expect a lot of QB runs…they have deep threats…I was impressed with their TE last season…Their offensive line is big and strong…We are preparing for a lot of read option and QB runs.”

On Walter Tucker: “He could play LB or FB right now…He’s played both…He might play on defense or on offense…He’s very explosive and athletic.”
