Football Preview: Wake Forest

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons (4-3, 2-2 ACC) will travel to Sun Life Stadium on Saturday with the hopes of knocking off the undefeated No. 7 Miami Hurricanes (6-0, 2-0 ACC).

The Deacons will be riding a wave of momentum and come to Miami with a two-game winning streak, knocking off NC State and most recently Maryland.

Led by Tanner Price, the senior quarterback has thrown for 1,476 yards with ten touchdowns and three interceptions on the year.  In the Deacons win against Maryland, Price completed 26 of 36 passes for 231 yards and one touchdown.

Price’s favorite receiver, Michael Campanaro, has 55 receptions for 704 yards and five touchdowns.  The Hurricanes’ defense must know where Campanaro is on the field at all times, otherwise, this game will be eerily similar to that of North Carolina.  If Miami is able to limit the Price-to-Campanaro combination, this will certainly hinder the Deacons chance at adding points.

While Wake Forest is ranked 72nd in passing yards and 113th in rushing yards, they are certainly capable of outscoring their opponents during the first half of play.  Miami tends to be a second half team, so slowing down the Deacons offense is a must.  In their last two wins, Wake Forest has outscored their opponents by a combined 38-13 during the first half of play.

The Hurricanes are coming off of an emotion come-from-behind road win against North Carolina, a game in which UM QB Stephen Morris threw four interceptions.  If Miami wants to walk away victorious against Wake Forest, they must limit their turnovers offensively and continue to force turnover of defense.  Focusing on the task at hand is essential and Miami can’t afford to be looking ahead at next week’s match-up against No. 3 Florida State.  Also, with the NCAA recently handing down their punishment to the ‘Canes, they must stick to playing sound football and not let their emotions get the best of them.

While Wake Forest has nothing to lose, the same can’t be said for Miami.
