Early Friday afternoon, the bat signal went off, but this time it was for a Canes basketball commit.

Jim Larranaga and his staff received yet another transfer, this time it was Joe Thomas from Niagara University, the school announced Friday. Thomas is a 6’7” 235 pound forward, that is in his 5th year of eligibility, which means he’s allowed to come in and play immediately. Thomas averaged 3.4 points and 2.7 rebounds in 30 games last season for the Purple Eagles.
Miami has also landed Kamari Murphy via transfer this offseason, but he will have to sit out the 2014-2015 season. Thomas gives the Canes the immediate boost to the front court they were looking for after losing James Kelly to transfer and Donnovan Kirk to graduation.
The staff will call upon Thomas to pair up with Tonye Jekiri and newcomers, Omar Sherman and Ivan Cruz Uceda as the teams main front court options. It remains to be seen how many minutes Thomas will play over those guys, but this appears to be like a depth move by the Canes and the staff.
WELCOME TO THE U, JOE.
