Miami Hurricanes Football: Everything Sucked, Virginia Beats Miami, 30-13

The two questions leading up to this game against Virginia were: “Can the Hurricanes bounce back after a tough loss to FSU” and “Can the Hurricanes finally win in Virginia under Al Golden” Your answers? No and hell no.

The Miami Hurricanes laid an egg and played their worst game of the season Saturday night against the Virginia Cavaliers losing, 30-13 and are now a 6-5 team. Seriously.

We saw the offense play terrible, the defense go back to their old ways, and a special teams that couldn’t step on the field without getting a penalty called against them. Or better yet, kick a damn field goal. And no, I’m not counting the block punt for a touchdown as a good thing because the game was out of hand and just didn’t matter

Before I rant on how bad the team was on Saturday, I want to ask everyone to shoot out a prayer to Herb Waters and his family as he suffered a nasty injury that saw him get carted off to a local hospital. I think I speak for everyone here at Canes Warning and Canes fans everywhere when I say that we’re all with you and we hope for a speedy recovery.

After the unfortunate injury to Herb Waters in the fourth quarter, ESPN showed Duke Johnson in tears because his good friend had been hurt. It was a moment that showed how much this team is a family and how much Johnson cares about this team and program. And he’s not alone.

I have never been a “fire Al Golden” guy and I’ll never directly call for a firing of one man’s job — but this is unacceptable and either he goes, or there’s some changes that need to be made.

It was clear from the very beginning that Golden and his staff did not have the guys ready to play, and the players looked as disinterested as they possibly could all throughout the game. Like I said at the beginning, the offense stunk, the defense was worse and special teams was the worst.

The only players that looked like they gave a damn were, Clive Walford, Denzel Perryman, Duke Johnson and Brad Kaaya. Other than that, there was nothing. And players not caring, comes back to the coaches not getting their players up to the challenge and ready to play a game.

Perryman had tackle after tackle for Miami and Duke is still 34 yards shy of breaking the all-time Miami rushing record. Kaaya threw a beautiful (about the only thing that was) touchdown pass to Phillip Dorsett in the first quarter and the freshman threw a touchdown pass for the 11th straight game to start off his collegiate career.

After a close first half that had UVA up only 13-7 over Miami, Virginia turned up and did whatever they wanted in the second half and put it on the Canes.

The offensive line made the Virginia defense line look like an NFL pro bowl unit, and the Miami defensive line made the Virginia offense look like a freaking Chip Kelly coached team.

The Virginia offense had close to 400 total yards and they drove down Miami’s defense time and time again until they finally put it away with a Khalek Sheperd run from four-yards out to put Virginia up 30-7.

Sheperd finished with 95 yards on 22 carries for the Cavaliers.

The Canes added a blocked-punt for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to make the score look a little bit less depressing at 30-13. Still depressing tho.

It was a tough night (again) for Canes fans and I wholeheartedly believe that there needs to be changes, either with a new head coach and definitely changes with the staff. Getting absolutely dominated by a four-win team cannot be accepted in any school, especially at the University of Miami.

It might be a rough reality for a lot of people, but as of right now, the University of Miami is a basketball school under Jim Larranaga and his kids.
