Miami Hurricanes Recruiting: January 30th Official Visitors

facebooktwitterreddit

This weekend marks the last official visit weekend before players sign their National Letters of Intent on Wednesday, February 4th. Miami has had two busy weekends the last two weeks, but this group is significantly smaller than the other weekends. The Miami Hurricanes will only have four visitors this week, but there’s still some important recruits coming in to try and lure to Coral Gables come Wednesday.

Let’s take a look at who visited during the week, and who’ll be on campus this weekend.

In-Week Visitor

Four-star Dual-threat QB Lamar Jackson

Lamar Jackson is a new target for Miami due to their need of adding a quarterback in this class. Jackson is really talented and stealing him away from Louisville this late in the game would be huge for the Canes. Jackson visited Coral Gables during the week, and the staff will hope that he will want to stay home and play for the local Hurricanes. The Florida Gators are also putting the full-court press on Jackson and he’ll be visiting Gainesville this weekend. It’s unknown if Jackson will change his mind and commit elsewhere, but he’s looking, and that’s all you can hope for this late in the game.

Weekend Visitors

Four-star Dual-threat quarterback Torrance Gibson

Whether you want Torrance Gibson to play quarterback or wide receiver, you should be excited about Gibson taking an official visit to Miami. Gibson will be on campus in the last weekend, and that’s always a good thing. Gibson has been committed to Ohio State for months, but the clustered quarterback depth-chart at Ohio State has him looking elsewhere. The four-star quarterback from American Heritage has gotten a ton of interest from LSU and Auburn in the last couple of weeks, but Miami has also jumped back into the picture. The staff and players will be all over Gibson and they’ll try to convince him that staying home and being the immediate backup at the position is the right thing for him to do. Whether Gibson wants to stay home, or go to a school that fits him schematically, that remains to be seen. Auburn seems to be the favorite to flip Gibson, but having him on campus and getting the last word never hurts.

Three-star wide receiver Terrell Chatman

Terrell Chatman is a talented receiver from Louisiana that Miami landed on the fourth of July. Chatman has been flirting around with TCU the last month or so, but after his official visit to Fort Worth and Arizona State, Chatman has remained committed to the Hurricanes. The staff will try to do this week what they did with Lawrence Cager, and that’s to lock up another wide receiver during his official visit. Chatman is my favorite receiver in the class (Sorry Coach Cager, I like you too) and it’s important for Miami to lock him up this weekend. If the staff locks up Chatman, I expect Chatman to play a roll in trying to convince Gibson to pick Miami.

Three-star offensive lineman Brendan Loftus

Brendan Loftus has been committed to Miami since the summer, and nothing will change about that. Loftus will be a Cane on Wednesday as his recruiting has slowed down ever since he picked Miami. This is just a visit so he can check out his future home, and try and sway the other two uncommitted guys in the class.

Unranked defensive lineman Simi Moala

Simi Moala is a late rising defensive end from California, and he’s a large man. Moala is a 6’7” 250 pound prospect with Samoan descent. Miami seems to be a long shot for Moala, but having him on a campus doesn’t hurt. Moala told 247sports.com earlier this week that he will take a two-year mormon mission before he enrolls in a school. Don’t expect Moala to come to Miami.
