Six Miami Hurricanes who were not selected in the NFL Draft have signed free agent contracts with NFL teams.

Safety Jamal Carter, punter Justin Vogel, wide receiver Malcolm Lewis, tight end Stan Dobard, running back Joe Yearby and former linebacker Jermaine Grace have been signed by NFL teams per the Palm Beach Post.

Carter, Vogel, Lewis and Dobard have been signed by their teams, while Grace and Yearby will technically get tryouts. Grace was suspended for the 2016 season by Miami because of his involvement in a rental car scandal.

WR Malcolm Lewis, Miami Dolphins

LB Jermaine Grace, Atlanta Falcons
TE Stan Dobard, Seattle Seahawks (rookie tryout)
RB Joe Yearby, San Francisco 49ers (rookie tryout, per Miami Herald)

Carter led the Hurricanes in tackles in 2016 with 85, one more than freshman linebacker Shaquille Quarterman. Carter was one of the best safeties in the country coming out of high school but didn’t become a fulltime starter until his Senior year at Miami.

Carter received praise for his physical build, but criticism for lacking the instincts needed to succeed. His NFL.Com draft profile claimed most of his tackles came down the field. He could become a special teams specialist at the next level.

The Broncos have one of the best secondaries in the NFL with Chris Harris and Aqib Talib at the corners and T.J. Ward as one of the safeties. The only secondary player they drafted was corner Brendan Langley in the fourth round.
