After two dominant pitching performances to sweep Friday’s doubleheader, the Miami Hurricanes got a sweep of the series against Virginia Tech with an Edgar Michelangeli walk-off home run in the bottom of the tenth to defeat the Hokies 7-5.

The Hurricanes seized control in the final game of the series with a Johnny Ruiz two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning. They maintained control of the game until the top of the fifth. Virginia Tech’s Rahiem Cooper hit a two-run double to tie the score.

The teams remained tied until Cooper hit a three-run home run in the tenth inning to put the Hokies up three. Miami battled back in the bottom of the ninth. Ruiz hit a two-run single with one out to cut the deficit to one.

Nico Baldor walked on a 3-2 pitch with two outs to set up Michelangeli’s heroics. Albert Maury Junior got the last out of the top of the tenth to earn his third win of the year against one loss.

The Hurricanes appeared to have taken the lead in the sixth. After a Chris Barr single, Michelangeli was thrown out at home plate by Cooper to end the inning. It was a close play that would have benefitted from replay.

Miami opened the series with the another dominant performance from ace lefthander Jeb Bargfeldt. Bargefeldt went seven innings allowing one run on four hits and a walk with one strikeout to lead Miami to a 4-2 victory.

Andrew Cabezas pitched two innings to pick up his second save of the season. Cabezas went two innings giving up one unearned run on two hits with one strikeout.

Miami got contributions throughout their lineup. Christopher Barr led the Miami offense with two hits. The Hurricanes scored single runs in the fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth.
