Miami Basketball alums Davon Reed and Kamari Murphy will compete in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas beginning July 7.

All of the games in Las Vegas will be broadcast via the ESPN network stations or NBATV. The Nets will play the second game on day one against the Atlanta Hawks at 8 pm ET at Cox Pavillion. The Suns will play later on that night against the Sacramento Kings at the Thomas and Mack Center at 10:30 ET.

Phoenix is still finalizing its summer league roster. They are a young team. Reed should have several high profile teammates. His fellow 2017 Suns draftee Josh Jackson is almost a definite to play as a first-year player.

Other players expected to compete according to AZCentral.Com are Second-year forwards Marquese Chriss and Dragan Bender, and second-year wing Derrick Jones Jr.

Chriss was named to NBA’s All-Rookie second team this season. He started 75 games and averaged 9.2 and 4.8 rebounds.

Bender was the fourth pick in the 2016 draft. He played in only 43 games after having ankle surgery halfway through the season.

Murphy signing with the Nets allows him a chance to play for his hometown team in Brooklyn. He will have several teammates in Las Vegas with familiar names to those that follow college basketball.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson played on Arizona’s back to back Elite Eight teams that lost to Wisconsin in 2014 and ’15. Caris LeVert was a reserve on Michigan’s National Runner-up team in 2013. He was one of their key players his last three seasons in college.

The NBA summer league will be critical for Murphy. As an undrafted player, he is going to have to play extremely well to have a chance to make the Nets. His former teammate Sheldon (McClellan) Mac made the Wizards as an undrafted free agent.

The summer league is also a big chance for Reed to show what he can do. As a second round pick and with the two-way contracts with the G-League beginning next season his spot in the Suns organization should be secure. A good ten days in Las Vegas will greatly improve his chances of making the Suns roster out of training camp and the preseason.
