The Miami Hurricanes offensive line continued its struggles as the Canes got back to practice on Tuesday. After being dominated during Saturday’s first scrimmage Offensive line Coach Stacy Searles said that they are still trying to find five guys that they trust.

During Saturday’s scrimmage, Searles and Miami Hurricanes Head Coach Mark Richt had to move starting center Tyler Gauthier from center to right tackle to get the five best linemen on the field. Hayden Mahoney played center. George Brown has played right tackle for most of Spring practice.

Gauthier was named honorable mention All-ACC at Center last season. While it’s tough to move a player in his Senior year, it’s not unprecedented. K.C. McDermott and Trevor Darling switched places at left guard and left tackle last season. Tyree St. Louis moved from right tackle in 2017 to left tackle for this upcoming season.

It would be better for the Miami Hurricanes to have Gauthier at center in 2018. He’s their most experienced lineman. Having him at center to make the line calls makes the line better as a whole.

Mahoney is entering his Redshirt Junior season, but he didn’t get his first playing time until last season. He played in 12 of the 13 games, but only had two starts. Searles spoke to the Sun Sentinel about the frustration that he and Richt felt on Saturday.
