For the second straight week, the Miami Hurricanes defense dominated the offensive line.  Mark Richt was very pleased with the play of his defense in the Spring game.

With a nice mix of veterans and young talent, the Miami Hurricanes defense could have another dominant season ahead of them. Miami led the nation in sacks in 2017 and finished fourth in tackles for loss. There is still room for improvement for the Hurricanes defense.

The Hurricanes finished 28th in the nation in scoring defense. They allowed 21 points per game. That was 2.5 points and ten spots higher nationally than the 2016 season.

The younger players are the ones who stood out in the stat line in the Spring game. Greg Rousseau has had seven sacks in the two scrimmages this Spring. Rousseau had 5.5 tackles, four tackles for loss and three sacks on Saturday.

Freshman defensive back Gilbert Frierson had two tackles and an interception. He was the only Hurricane to wear the turnover chain on Saturday.

Miami Hurricanes middle linebacker Shaq Quarterman was impressed by the performance of the young players on the roster. He was also asked how much growth the defense needs to have between now and the September 2 season opener against LSU.
