In an article defending the turnover backpack that has been panned by everyone else in college football, a Florida State blog accused the Miami Hurricanes Athletic Department of violations in paying for the turnover chain.

The Florida State blog in question constantly trolls the Miami Hurricanes and has often called out Canes Warning unwarrantedly. Florida State debuted a turnover backpack in last week’s narrow victory over FCS Samford.

New Seminoles Head Coach Willie Taggart who is a Florida native seems to be obsessed with the Miami Hurricanes turnover chain. As Head Coach at Oregon, last season Taggart’s Ducks were the first team in the nation to have a knockoff of the turnover chain.

The turnover chain became a sensation of college football last season. It spawned a multitude of knockoffs. ESPN’s Tom Rinaldi spoofed the idiocy of other schools attempting to come up with their own version of the turnover chain.

There are several differences between the 2017 and 2018 versions of the turnover chain.

  1. Sebastian the Ibis replaced the U logo as the pendant at the bottom of the chain
  2. The 2017 turnover chain weighed 5.5 pounds. This year’s chain is 27.2 percent heavier at seven pounds.
  3. The 2017 chain had 450 orange and 400 green stones inside it. Sebastian the Ibis has greater than 400 stones alone. That is not a surprise. We all know the Hurricanes have always had a lot of stones. It used to be figurative. Now its figurative and literal.
  4. The size of the chain is nearly the same as last year. The Biggest difference is the pendant. The U was about 5.5 inches. Sebastian is 8.5

  • Miami's turnover chain got a super swaggy makeoverFanSided
  • The Florida State blog in question inserts the Miami Hurricanes into their articles often when it doesn’t belong. They obviously have an obsession and hatred with and towards the Hurricanes. That’s understandable on some level. To project accusations at the Hurricanes about the turnover chain without proof is wrong.

The accusations might be made in jest. In this day of “fake news” and misinformation being constantly spread their accusations are unprofessional and not at all funny.

"“It’s being labeled as a copycat to some of the other items teams use – namely that ugly turnover chain in Miami that was probably paid for with ponzi (SIC) scheme money or from someone who went to Miami-Dade Community College or FIU and couldn’t find Coral Gables on a map.For starters, if people from Gainesville or Coral Gables or points elsewhere don’t like it, who cares? We’ve never wanted their opinion on things before and, quite frankly, they don’t matter to us so we should just to (SIC) our thing. I don’t give a damn if it is the actual backpack from Dora the Explorer – whatever works.”"

Miami Athletic Director Blake James issued a statement last season disputing any assertation that the turnover chain might have been purchased with any improper funds.

"“A member of our staff purchased the Turnover Chain from a local jeweler….We have no reason to believe that there is — or has been — any inappropriate conduct regarding Mr. Machado and the University of Miami.”"

The Florida State blog saying they don’t care about the Miami opinion is beyond hypocritical. The site constantly mentions the Hurricanes in their blog posts. If they didn’t care about what the Miami and Florida fanbases are saying they should concentrate a lot more on their own program that is on the decline.

Florida State got crushed at home against Virginia Tech in the opener, barely defeated Samford and as of the time of this post is being shutout 23-0 in the second half at Syracuse at the time this was published.

The Florida State blog and fan base in general ought to take the advice in their own post and worry about their own website, program and school. The Seminoles are quickly approaching their lowest point in decades.
