The breakout season in 2019 by Miami Hurricanes defensive end Greg Rousseau is creating a lot of buzz for 2020. ESPN named the rising redshirt sophomore to its “College football’s Way-Too-Early All-America team for 2020.”

As a redshirt freshman in 2019, Greg Rousseau was one of the shining stars in a difficult season for the Miami Hurricanes football team. Rousseau finished the season seventh nationally with 19.5 tackles for loss and second with 15.5 sacks. Only Heisman Trophy finalist Chase Young eclipsed Rousseau sack total with 16.5.

Most players that had the kind of season Rousseau did will face far more attention from the opposition the following season. Miami has replaced the departure of junior defensive end Jonathan Garvin with 2019 All-American defensive end Quincy Roche as a graduate transfer from Temple.

Roche 10th nationally in 2019 with 19 TLFs and seventh with 13 sacks. The Roche and Rousseau wrecking crew will be brutal for opposing offensive coordinators and offensive line coaches to game plan for. Opponents are going to likely have to keep extra blockers in. Rousseau is the latest star on the Miami Hurricanes defensive line.

Under Blake Baker, the Miami Hurricanes defense continued to be one of the best in the country in 2019. A disciple of head coach Manny Diaz, Baker continued to engage the Hurricanes style of getting his defensive linemen up the field led by Rousseau. Miami tied for sixth in TFLs and was seventh in sacks in 2019.

"“DE: Gregory Rousseau, MiamiThere wasn’t much to celebrate about Miami’s 2019 season, as the Hurricanes lost their last three games and finished 6-7. But the 6-6, 251-pound Rousseau was an absolute monster on that defense and should be even better as a redshirt sophomore. He was second only to Chase Young nationally in sacks with 15.5 and led all FBS freshmen with 19.5 tackles for loss. Teams won’t be able to load up on Rousseau next season, with Temple grad transfer Quincy Roche stepping in at the other end.”"

Rousseau is joined on College football’s Way-Too-Early All-America team for 2020″ by defensive tackles Marvin Wilson of Florida State and Jaylen Twyman of Pittsburgh. A case could be made that both Rousseau and Roche belong on the team posted by ESPN. Oregon rising sophomore Kayvon Thibodeau is the other DE.
