Jarren Williams reportedly transferring without telling Manny Diaz

On their podcast Through the Smoke. Andrew Ivins and David Lake of Inside the U reported that redshirt freshman QB Jarren Williams announced his departure from the Miami football program without telling head coach Manny Diaz.

Andrew Ivins and David Lake of Inside the U reported on their Through the Smoke podcast that was released on Friday that redshirt Junior QB Jarren Williams left the Miami football program without telling head coach Manny Diaz. The final move by Williams was the latest of multiple immature incidents.

The initial news that Jarren Williams was entering the transfer portal came from Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press and Pat Forde of Sports Illustrated. The declaration from Ivins and Lake that Williams announced he was entering the transfer portal officially via Instagram without telling Diaz is another troubling report about the QB.

Ivins and Lake discussed Williams throughout the latest episode of Through the Smoke. Their prevailing opinion, and that of many others close to the Miami football program including Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, is that the Hurricanes staff was not unhappy to see Williams decide to move on.

Williams had a multitude of run-ins during his two-year tenure in the Miami football program. Jackson reported on Tuesday that Williams initially had planned to go through spring practice and see where he stood and then make a decision about his future. The addition of Houston grad transfer D’Eriq King changed the depth chart.

King will almost assuredly be the starter for Miami when the Hurricanes play Temple in September. Williams could have stayed and been the primary backup for King and then had two years of eligibility remaining following the 2020 season. The Georgia native will move on from Miami and likely sit out 2020.

The only way that Williams will be able to play in 2020 would be to get a waiver from the NCAA at his next destination. Expect high profile attorney Tom Mars who is representing Williams to play up the firing of former Miami offensive coordinator as a reason the Williams is moving on. King’s addition to Miami spurred Williams’ move.

This is not the first time that Mars has represented Williams. Williams considered transferring on the eve of the 2018 Pinstripe Bowl appearance by Miami. The Georgia native was convinced to stay with the Hurricanes by former QB coach Jon Richt and then-freshman tight end

Jackson reported that comments by Williams’ father, his walking out of a practice and too much partying led to the Miami football program becoming weary of the lack of dedication that he had to the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes will move on with King, N’Kosi Perry, Tate Martell, Tyler VanDyke and Payton Matocha in the QB room.
