The addition of former Houston quarterback, graduate transfer D’Eriq King to the Miami football program should be a big boost for the 2020 season. King is grateful to be matriculating in Coral Gables and is motivated to be wanted by Manny Diaz and the Hurricanes.

The addition of former Houston quarterback D’Eriq King as a graduate transfer through the portal has the Miami football program energized and the Hurricanes newest signal-caller grateful to be wanted by the Hurricanes. King discussed his journey to the Miami football program and hopes for the 2020 season.

King is an elite QB who is among the top transfer signal-callers available in the portal for 2020. He brings immediate credibility to the offense for the Miami football program. The addition of King to run the new Hurricanes offense under new offensive coordinator from Rhett Lashlee from SMU has created a buzz in Coral Gables.

King will provide a dimension at QB for Miami that has never been seen in a Hurricanes uniform before. True dual-threat QBs are prevalent throughout college football. N’Kosi Perry signed with Miami in 2017 as the seventh-ranked dual-threat QB in the class. Perry has not been able to give Miami the consistency they need.

Here comes the King! The Miami football program should be transformed in 2020 if King has the type of season that is expected of him. Unlike the addition of Tate Martell through the transfer portal in 2019, King has a history of exceptional success as a college QB. King spoke with Christy Cabrera Chirinos of HurricaneSports.Com.

"“There’s a lot of history here, a lot of winning traditions and I was excited they even wanted me, to be honest with you…Just being here, and making the best of the year I have here…It’s a big deal. I don’t take it lightly. I know the history of the program is winning, has always been winning.I’m coming here just ready to work, get to it and try to win as many games as possible…Coach Diaz is a great guy. That’s the first thing I noticed about him. He’s real genuine. He’s not loud and screaming. He’s just a good guy…Coach Lashlee he was also in the same conference as me and Quincy (Roche), so I kind of knew his offense a little bit playing against him and kind of had a relationship…We just built on that relationship…I’m very excited. I played in an offense pretty similar to it in Houston…just coming down here, in this offense.I’m ready to go. I’m ready to work.”"

King is elusive at avoiding the opposing pass rush or taking off and running. Former Temple defensive end Quincy Roche joined King committing to the Miami football program a few hours after the former Houston QB. Roche told Chirinos what it was like to game plan for King from an opponent’s perspective.

"“He gave me one of the toughest times of anybody that I’ve ever had to go against. Between him being able to pass and him be able to run while still being able to throw…he’s so dynamic in the run game while still being dynamic in the pass game”"

King comes to Miami as a record-setting QB. In high school, King broke the Texas state record for passing touchdowns with 117 that had previously been held by 2018 Heisman Trophy winner Kyler Murray, broke Tim Tebow’s record of a passing and rushing TD in 15 straight games and joined an elite club with 50 total TDs in 2018.

King is a unique talent that should elevate the entire Miami offense. He is an electric, dynamic player that brings much-needed maturity and experience to the Hurricanes QB room. King was so good in high school that he started ahead of current Florida QB Kyle Trask. Under Lashlee and King, the Miami offense should be greatly improved.
