The Miami football 2021 recruiting class moved up to 13th nationally on Wednesday with the commitment of three-star linebacker Deshawn Troutman.

The commitment of three-star linebacker Deshawn Troutman has moved the 2021 Miami football recruiting class to 13th overall nationally in the 247Sports composite rankings. Troutman is the 938th player, 38th inside LB and 126th ranked player in Florida in the Class of 2021 according to 247.

Troutman has been a productive player at Edgewater high school in Orlando. The Miami native who moved to Orlando in ninth grade finished his 2019 junior season with 89 tackles and 11 tackles for loss in nine games. Troutman is the 14th commit to Miami for 2021 and fifth since the forced dead recruiting period in March.

Troutman is the third LB commit to Miami for 2021. Tyler Johnson, the brother of former Miami safety Jaquan Johnson and Ja’Corey Hammett are the other two. Hammett and Johnson are outside LBs. Troutman has not visited the Coral Gables campus but told Inside the U, Miami is his dream school in his hometown.

Troutman was recruited by co-defensive coordinator Blake Baker and tight ends coach Stephen Field. The offer from Miami to Troutman came initially in January. Troutman has offers from 17 schools. Power Five programs to offer Troutman are Florida State, Indiana. Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville, Minnesota, and West Virginia.

Miami could add one more LB to the 2021 recruiting class. Three-star OLB Sebastian Sagar of Brooklyn is high on the Hurricanes. Sagar is the 1,596th ranked player and 110th ranked OLB in the Class of 2021. The Miami football staff has done a good job stockpiling depth at LB for the future.

dark. Next. If MIami can't flip Milroe, QB unclear

Miami lost four-year starters Shaq Quarterman and Michael Pinckney off the 2019 team and Zach McCloud who redshirted last season is in his final year of eligibility in 2020. The Hurricanes signed Tirek Austin-Cave and Corey Flagg in the 2020 Class. Depth because of injuries hindered the Miami LB corps in 2020 and this spring.
