Redshirt sophomores Cleveland Reed and Patrick Joyner hope to rebound from lost seasons in 2019 with the Miami football team in the future.

Redshirt sophomores Cleveland Reed and Patrick Joyner enter the 2020 season hoping to turn around their careers with the Miami football team. Reed left the Hurricanes midseason in 2019 and entered his name into the transfer portal. Joyner has dealt with injuries since 2019 spring football.

Cleveland Reed enters his third season with the Miami football team after signing as a four-star prospect in 2018. Reed played two games as a true freshman to maintain his redshirt season. In 2019 Reed did not make an impact as a redshirt freshman in 2019. Reed entered his name into the transfer portal during the 2019 season.

A consensus four-star signee, Reed was the ranked 12th best guard and 259th ranked player overall by the 247 Sports composite in the Class of 2018. Reed returned to Miami in December when other options did not become available. During the spring, Reed was working with the second-team offensive line.

Patrick Joyner signed with the Miami football program in 2018 as a defensive end. Injuries at linebacker shifted Joyner there. In three games played as a true freshman in 2018, Joyner had five tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. A shin injury suffered in the summer of 2019 cost Joyner last season.

Joyner will focus on getting healthy in 2020 and compete to be part of the rotation at linebacker behind redshirt senior Zach McCloud, sophomore Sam Brooks and redshirt freshman Avery Huff. Switching from DE to potentially inside LB to back up McCloud is a big change that is going to require a lot of learning for Joyner.

Joyner and Reed enter key seasons in their collegiate careers to make an impact with the Miami football team. Both had a chance to show what they could do during the four spring practices the Hurricanes held in March. If there is a season this fall, Joyner and Reed should have a chance to be a part of the rotation on the OL and at LB.
