A tweet by Miami Hurricanes alum and The Athletic National College football reporter Bruce Feldman states the Big 10 will postpone its 2020 season with the hopes of playing this spring.

As had been rumored on Monday, The Athletic National College football reporter Bruce Feldman tweeted on Tuesday afternoon that Big 10 Presidents have made the decision to postpone their 2020 season with the hopes of playing this spring. The Miami Hurricanes could be affected depending on the ACC response.

The Pac 12 was reportedly going to follow the decision by the Big 10 to not play football this fall. That would leave the ACC, Big XII and SEC as the sole power five conferences to continue their seasons. The move by the Big 10 and potentially the Pac 12 would potentially drastically alter the specter of the College Football Playoff.

The Big 10 had initially made the announcement last month to limit their 2020 schedule to conference games only. Miami lost a game at Michigan State September 26 as a result of the original alteration in the Big 10 schedule eliminating non-conference games. There is no official announcement about the ACC season.

Earlier on Tuesday in an interview with the Sports Business Journal, Dr. Cameron Wolfe the chair the ACC’s medical advisory team and an infectious disease specialist at Duke stated the conference can play the season safely, but expensively in a way to follow protocols and testing.

Part of the fallout could be how much the Power Five conferences all trust each other in the future. No uniform decision is being made even after the Power Five commissioners met over the weekend. Michigan State is scheduled to play at Miami in 2021. Miami does not have any Big 10 teams on their schedule beyond 2021.

The ACC, Big XII and SEC could decide to move ahead and hold the College Football Playoff without the Big 10 and potentially the Pac 12 should they follow through and cancel their season. The ACC and SEC have combined to win every college football playoff game since 2015. The Big 12 and Pac 12 have never won a CFP game.
