According to a recent report by Sports Illustrated, the in-state rivalry featuring the Florida Gators’ and the Miami Hurricanes’ may soon be coming to an end.

November 10, 2012; Gainesville FL, USA; An overview of The Swamp during the first quarter between the Florida Gators and Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin Cajuns at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
The Hurricanes’ will play host to the Gators’ on Sept. 7 pairing the two teams against each other for the first time since 2008 when Florida handily beat Miami in Gainesville, 26-3.

Gator’s QB Tim Tebow threw for 256 yards and two touchdowns against the Miami defense and adding 55 rushing yards.

Hurricanes’ athletic director Blake James told SI, “I haven’t spoken with Jeremy or the University of Florida about future games and I don’t know how it would fit into their schedule or fit into ours right now. There hasn’t been any conversation and there isn’t anything on the schedule for the future.”

The Hurricanes’ lead the all-time series winning 28 games against the Gators’ while UF has beaten Miami a total of 26 times. Of 54 total meetings, 25 games have been decided by a touchdown or less.

The Gators’ currently hold an annual rivalry against Florida State, but to Miami fans, nothing compares to the UF-UM rivalry.

COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARDS

Miami won 42-36 in overtime. Mandatory Credit: Kevin Liles-USA TODAY Sports

James was the 21st pick in the sixth round and the No. 189 overall pick. NFL.com gave James (5-10, 223) a grade of 52.0

NFL.com Analysis:

STRENGTHS – Powerful build, with a thick lower half. Runs behind his pads, and keeps his legs churning on contact. Fights for the extra yard, often falls forward. Tough to bring down with arm tackles. Patient runner, allows his blocks to develop. Light feet, and surprising agility. Runs with balance. Good blocker, can contribute on special teams.

WEAKNESSES – Not a burner, won’t break off many big runs. Initial explosiveness is only average. Vision isn’t great, fill miss open running lanes. Will find himself on his tippy-toes dancing in the backfield too much for a runner his size.

BOTTOM LINE – James has displayed great versatility throughout his career as a Hurricane. Has had success with different running concepts. He has a good build, runs hard, blocks well, and has shown a willingness to play, and contribute on a special teams unit. While he lacks elite athletic tools, he looks like a very solid running back who will make a roster, and possibly contribute much more as a Day 3 pick.

James started all 12 games at running back in 2012 and saw action at full-back and on special teams. Among his 2012 awards were the 2012 Community Service Man of the Year Award, 2012 Captains Award, 2012 Melching Leadership Award and the 2012 Jack Harding Team Most Valuable Player Award.

James finished his senior season at UM with 642 rushing yards and six touchdowns. He joins unrestricted free agent and former Miami Hurricane Roscoe Parrish in Tampa Bay.

Former UM cornerback Brandon McGee was selected in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Feb 26, 2013; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Miami Hurricanes defensive end Brandon McGee catches a pass during the NFL Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The Plantation High grad was the sixteenth pick in the fifth round and the No. 149 pick overall. NFL.com gave McGee (5-11, 193) a grade of 60.1.

NFL.com Analysis:

STRENGTHS – Typical Miami cornerback with quick feet and good straight-line speed. Quickness evident waiting for receiver to make his move off of the line, can stick with hitch routes effectively. Fluid hips help him in transition well, flips open quickly to keep up down the sideline. Good recovery speed and is effective in trail over the middle. Competitiveness, and body control to knock away passes around the receiver without interfering. Shows violent hands to rip off receiver blocks in the run game, sticks his nose into tackles, wrapping when possible, on the edge and adds himself to piles. Plays boundary and field sides.

WEAKNESSES – Has only adequate size for an outside corner. Will struggle to turn his head to find the ball at times. Leans back in his pedal too often, losing some traction when needing to plant to trail, or getting knocked out of position by contact. Needs to flatten his blitz angles, ball gets underneath him.

BOTTOM LINE – The next Miami cornerback with great speed to pique the interest of NFL scouts, McGee also presents enough size to stand up to NFL receivers on the outside. However, McGee had an up-and-down senior season, and was challenged and successfully beaten on numerous occasions. He was able to rebound his stock with a strong week of practices at the East-West Shrine Game.

McGee started all 12 games for the Hurricanes’ in 2012 and finished his senior season with 54 tackles, two interceptions and one sack. He will join his former Hurricanes’ teammate Brandon Washington in St. Louis.

Hurricanes’ head football coach Al Golden told Milian:

We’ve separated and moved on in another direction now.”

On how he determined Terry’s punishment, Golden went on to tell Milian:

“…it certainly has to do with the resume of the young man in terms of whether there were any incidents in terms of his career here and whether he’s done all of the things we’ve asked him to do…“

Since his arrival in Coral Gables less than a year ago, the Palm Beach Central linebacker found himself suspended more than once. Terry missed Miami’s 2012 game against Virginia and did not play in the ‘Canes final game of the season against USF. Golden would never elaborate on why Terry was suspended.

The final incident was enough to get him kicked off of the team.

On Apr. 19 Terry was arrested with felony possession of marijuana and resisting arrest without violence.

Terry was listed as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com and spent much of his freshman UM career playing on special teams. He was named ACC Specialist of the Week after blocking a punt against Virginia Tech on Nov. 5. Aside from being a standout football player, Terry was listed as being one of the top wrestlers in the nation.
