Miami star point guard Tre Donaldson, a transfer from Michigan and leading scorer Malik Reneau, who transferred from Indiana, have extensive experience playing against Purdue. Seventh-seeded Miami plays second-seeded Purdue in the NCAA Tournament second round on Sunday.

In three games against Purdue, Donaldson is averaging 12.0 points per game, made 13 out of 24 shots from the field, eight out of 16 three-point attempts, with 11 rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Michigan was 2-1 against Purdue last season, which included an 86-68 win in the Big 10 Tournament.

Reneau was primarily a backup as a freshman at Indiana in 2022-23 but became a double-figure scorer as a sophomore and junior. In six games against Purdue, Reneau is averaging 20 minutes per game, 7.0 points, 4.8 rebounds,1.25 assists and 1.0 steals.

One of the best games of Reneau's career came when he made all seven of his shots from the field with six rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block as Indiana beat Purdue 73-58 in 2025. That was the only game Reneau scored in double figures against Purdue.

Tre Donaldson and Malik Reneau are ready to keep putting on a show for Miami

Donaldson and Reneau should be familiar with Purdue. The Boilermakers have an experienced team led by guard Braden Smith and Fletcher Loyer. Power forward Trey Kaufman-Renn and 7-4 center Daniel Jacobsen also played against Donaldson and Reneau during their time in the Big 10.

Donaldson led Michigan to two wins in three games during his one season in Ann Arbor in 2024-25. Indiana was 3-3 against Purdue in the three seasons he played for the Hoosiers. The Hoosiers won once in the four games Reneau started during his Indiana tenure.

As the two leading scorers and players with the most NCAA Tournament experience on the roster, Donaldson and Reneau are key players for Miami to pull the upset over Purdue. Donaldson and Reneau had big second halves as Miami beat Missouri 80-66 in the NCAA Tournament first round on Friday.

Reneau is averaging 19.0 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 2.0 APG and 1.0 steals on 54.5 percent from the field, 36.1 percent on three-point attempts, 78.4 percent from the free throw line with a 57.6 eFG percentage. Donaldson averages 16.5 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 5.8 APG and 1.4 SPG on 46.0 percent from the field, 36.0 percent on threes, 76.6 on free throws with a 52.6 eFG percentage.
