#1, RB Mark Walton: 5’10-195

Mark Walton not only cracked the two-deep, but is the only freshman listed as a co-starter on offense. With Gus Edwards out for the season, Mark Walton and sophomore, Joe Yearby, are now listed as co-starters going into the season opener. Walton was expected to see the field as a freshman before the Gus Edwards injury, but will now be relied on to carry a much larger portion of the load. Throughout camp Walton has looked ready to play right away and some that attended the last scrimmage told me that he was arguably the best player on the field.

Walton isn’t the fastest straight line runner, but he has great power, quickness, vision, and agility. It always takes multiple defenders to bring him down as he has incredible balance and a low center of gravity. One of Walton’s greatest assets is his ability to catch the ball out of backfield and rack up yards after the catch. Walton will get a ton of touches throughout the season both in the running game and the passing game. Although he is just a freshman, I expect Walton to be one of the Canes’ biggest weapons and even solidify himself as the #1 running back by the end of the season.
