Which freshman do you think will have the biggest impact for the Hurricanes this season?
Juan Toribio: Kendrick Norton. I saw Norton all throughout camp and he looked so big and physical. I knew the dude could play coming out of high school, but I didn’t expect him to play the way he did during camp. It’s going to be great to watch him in an actual game before declaring him the next Vince Wilfork or something, but he’s someone I’m definitely excited for.
Harry Kroll: Mark Walton. The running back will get many touches out of necessity, if nothing else. But he is a huge talent who I believe will be the top back on the team by the end of the season. Other names I considered are Lawrence Cager and Jaquan Johnson, but neither of them will get the sheer number of opportunities to produce as Walton.
Daniel Gould: Mark Walton Mark Walton Mark Walton. I’m gonna go watch Mark Walton highlights now because Mark Walton.
Shanon Culiner: I think at this point, it’s easy to say Mark Walton will be the freshman who makes the biggest impact. Again, he’s a true freshman, so there will be that learning curve for him – it’s faster and much more physical at the D1 level from high school. But he’s extremely skilled and determined. With Edwards out, he’ll make a great addition to rotate in the backfield.
Daniel Nordwall: The two freshmen candidates to have the biggest impact this season are Mark Walton and Kendrick Norton. Walton is a superb talent and it will have to be ready to take some of the load in the absence of Gus Edwards. On the defensive side of the ball, Norton has been reeking havoc in camp according to reports. Miami is always need of a defensive tackle who can play the 3-4 scheme, so this freshman might have an impact this season.
Sam Jacobs: Mark Walton. I think he’ll end up averaging close to double-digit carries per game, which is probably way more playing time than guys like Jaquan Johnson and Kendrick Norton, who could also make an impact.
Justin Fessenden: I think Mark Walton will have the biggest impact. Mark has earned praise from the coaches and we’ve seen some big-time runs in the Canes Camp Reports. Now the Gus Edwards is out for the year, Mark has an even greater opportunity to showcase his skills.
