Miami Hurricanes: Social Media Outcry After Cincy Loss

facebooktwitterreddit

After the Cincinnati loss, the Miami Hurricanes are getting a serious earful (or in this case, an eyeful). Whether it’s from sports shows, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, blogs, sports’ websites, etc., many are shocked at how the ‘Canes performed thus far in the 2015 season (and in most cases, over the past several years). The Thursday night loss has just escalated the noise.

Furthermore, the dreaded “hot seat” for Al Golden has just gotten to extreme boiling temperatures. Over the past few years, Golden and staff have been knocked for their lack of defense (and defensive scheme), not having signature wins, coaching up the talent, poor schedule outcomes and much more. In fact, #FireAlGolden and #SaveTheU have been trending all over social media.

Personally, I’m frustrated with the loss. However, I’ve been frustrated with the ‘Canes since the Randy Shannon era. So much talent and yet, no real results on the field. It truly is a love/hate relationship. But, as one who had grown up in North Miami, and fortunate to be around some of the greatness that came out of “The U” growing up, the ‘Canes will always be my team.

Unfortunately, these Miami teams should be eating up ACC Coastal Titles like pork chops in a lions’ den. And, the sad thing is that there’s no real reason for them not to. Plus, it’s hard to point just a single finger on the problem.

Though it’s easy to simply point the blame on the head coach, the players need to take some of the ownership as well. Tough-minded players take control of situations. Thanks to Billy Corben, we’ve had a chance to hear first-hand from players who had controlled the locker room and the play (and outcome) on the field. And, they were very dominant to say the least.

I’m not saying Al Golden isn’t at fault or the current Miami players aren’t tough-minded, but there’s clearly a problem that needs to be fixed ASAP.

My question to you is: though it’s extremely unlikely (from what we’ve seen), what if the Miami Hurricanes destroy Florida State next Saturday, putting themselves 1-0 in the ACC? Does that help the current mood?

Anyway, I’m just one writer with his own humble opinions, so, what did former Hurricanes, current Hurricanes and notable “Miamians” have to say on social media after the horrific loss:

Former ‘Canes stud offensive lineman, Leon Searcy was all hyped after the Nebraska win. He even went on Twitter talking some smack to FSU. Now, Searcy knows how important it is to show up for big games!

In shock after the loss to Cincy, I can’t tell if Miami running back great, Clinton Portis is being sarcastic or real regarding the plane banner. But, I do know that his heart’s broken, there’s a thumb down for disappointment and he can’t watch anymore.

It looks like the great Hurricanes wideout, Michael Irvin is at a loss for words. I wish we all knew the answer to that question, Michael.

Duane Starks was a great cornerback for “The U” during the 90’s, and he happens to be a big fan of the documentary. I believe he also starred in it.

The Director of “The U” and “The U Part 2” documentaries (amongst other critically acclaimed Miami-related films), Billy Corben, made a great point regarding Al Golden’s former team, Temple. What makes his tweet more scary is that Temple University is usually the cupcake team.

‘Canes former DB beast, Bennie Blades, had a list of great points on his Twitter page, however, this particular one stands out to me with the “No excuses…” comment in this tweet.

I don’t think too many Miami Hurricanes fans would object at this point to this hashtag from ex-UM offensive lineman, Bryant Mckinnie.

Colin McCarthy played linebacker for Coach Randy Shannon at Miami and yet, these losses still mean more than anything to a player who bleeds orange and green.

I’m taking a shot in the dark with former Miami wide receiver, Allen Hurns’ tweet. But, I’m guessing “Yikes” was regarding the MIA vs CIN game as it was dated Oct. 1st.

Unless something else was making DeMarcus Van Dyke sad on Thursday, the former ‘Canes defensive back tweeted a lot of crying faces around the same time Miami was on the field in Cincinnati.

Miami legendary rapper and huge ‘Canes supporter, Luther Campbell is shocked at the loss to an average Bearcats team.

Former ex-Hurricanes receiver, Sinorice Moss is still proud of his alma mater.

Here’s what current Miami Hurricanes players had to say:

Defensive back, Rayshawn Jenkins had a bunch to say on his Instagram after the loss (and some not so nice in regards to “bandwagon fans,” but I’m glad he’s still feeling confident.

Wide receiver, Herb Waters understands that they’re a family, brothers … and now they must band together against doubters and future opponents.

Tight end, David Njoku is clearly fed up and tired of the harsh words in regard to the defeat vs. Cincinnati.

Safety, Jamal Carter is clearly listening to the “fire Al Golden” verbiage all over, but sticking to what he has.

Safety, Jaquan Johnon doesn’t feel like they’re out of it just yet.
