What would you like to see in the new head coach? Defensive-minded, offensive-minded or just the best coach available?
Juan Toribio: After this tenure, I just want the best coach available. I know people are looking at someone who’s a really good recruiter, but I just want someone that I feel confident will have a good game plan heading into the game. I don’t really care if it’s a defense or an offensive guy, I just want the best coach, and the best fit, for the program. And obviously a guy that can recruit the area well.
Andrew Ferrelli: I would like to see the coach that fits Miami best. Someone that understands the dynamics of recruiting and is exciting. If I had to lean towards one side of the ball, I would choose to go with an offensive minded coach.
Daniel Nordwall: Miami just needs a guy who understands the tradition, the South Florida Athletes, and expectations. Surely, they need to get this abysmal defense fixed. However, offense is the major factor in college football. Allocate money to good coordinators on both sides of the ball. I want the administration to take their time in the process to find the right guy. The next hire is absolutely critical to Miami’s destiny for 20 years.
Sam Jacobs: I would like to see Miami hire a coach who has previous success at a high level of college football. Not a Temple, Memphis, or Houston coach who has “potential” with a big program. Miami ties would be nice, too.
Shanon Culiner: With the talent that surrounds Miami in S. Florida, the ‘Canes will always land tons of speed and skill on offense. But, what’s up with this defense in the last 6 or so years? I would love to see a defensive-minded guy come in here and get this team tough again. I think having a defensive juggernaut rubs off on the rest of the team. Look at Ray Lewis’s, Ravens and Warren Sapp’s, Buccaneers. Games may not be as exciting to watch, but I like the idea of shutting down every and any offense. And, if it proves to be a winning recipe, fans will take “W’s” over score any day. But again, I don’t think Miami will ever lack offense, so let’s get someone who can tilt the scale in the defense’s favor.
