Testaverde played for Miami from 1983 to 1986 and was the first Hurricanes player to ever win a Heisman Trophy.

In Testaverde’s final two seasons as the starting QB at Miami, he threw for 5,795 yards and 47 touchdowns and led his team to a 21-1 regular season record. And, he was a consensus first-team All-American in his senior year (1986).

Testaverde was drafted first overall in 1987 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and went on to play for a lengthy time in the NFL, playing for an incredible 21 seasons.

Coincidentally, Testaverde’s son, Vincent Testaverde Jr., currently plays quarterback at Miami as a backup QB (transferring from Texas Tech) where he wears his father’s old No. 14 (previously retired).

Testaverde, along with former Miami Hurricanes great, Jonathan Vilma, were on the Search Advisory Committee that helped hire Mark Richt as the new Hurricanes head coach.

Testaverde was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 1998 and was also inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
