George Mira
Mira was a two time All-American and Heisman Trophy Finalist in 1962 and 1963.
Nicknamed “The Matador” for his escapability and ability to throw on the run, Mira was considered by many as the “first star quarterback” for the Hurricanes.
At Miami, he threw for 4,633 yards and 28 touchdowns and led the ‘Canes to two bowl games.
In 1964, Mira was drafted in the first round by the San Francisco 49ers and played 8 seasons in the NFL before playing in Canada for the Toronto Argonauts.
Mira is a member of the University of Miami Hall of Fame, received the University of Miami Ring of Honor in 1997 and his No. 10 jersey is retired by the University of Miami.
His son, George Mira Jr. also went on to become a Miami Hurricanes All-American as a linebacker.
