Gino Torretta

Torretta played at Miami from 1989 to 1992 and was one of two Miami Hurricanes players to ever capture the Heisman Trophy.

He started out as primarily a backup to Craig Erickson in his first two-years, but later started his final two seasons at Miami.

As a starter, Torretta accumulated 6,155 yards and 39 touchdowns. He led the ‘Canes to a record of 23-1 (losing to a #2 Alabama Crimson Tide in the Sugar Bowl).

In his senior season, Torretta won every award imaginable and was a consensus first-team All-American.

Though he was one of the most decorated college football players, his NFL career was far from great. He roamed around as a backup with several NFL teams such as the Minnesota Vikings, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers and Indianapolis Colts.

Torretta was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.
